After nearly a year of hard work, the Marlborough Community Gardens team got to share their growth with the puplic at the weekend.

About 50 people turned out for the Gardens’ open day, which also marked their offical opening, to celebrate the transformation of the once weed-ridden land of Ballinger Drive.

Gardens manager Tina Fortune said the Gardens’ Patron, Ralph Ballinger and NMIT Manager, Lily Belabun, cut the ribbon for the official opening.

“When we started this in January, it was just a big patch of weeds,” Mrs Fortune said.

“Now we’ve got 12 useful allotments, a compost area, an edible hedge, a defined entrance with stonework in the ground. It looks inviting and welcoming.”

“As of November 28, the fencing will be finished which will signal the end Stage 1 of the project.”
