Making Meals Matter for our Senior Community …

Good Food keeps body and soul together whatever your age, and none more so than in the ‘golden years’.  However malnutrition risk is increasingly common in our ageing population.

The NZ Nutrition Foundation and NMDHB’s Nutrition and Physical Activity Programme held two seminars in Nelson on May 5th focussing on the latest research in keeping our seniors well by making meals matter.

“We hope to have given realistic solutions that can be used everyday.  A milk pudding here, or ten minutes longer over a meal there can make the difference between enough and not” said Christchurch Dietitian and Chair of the NZ Nutrition Foundation Committee for Healthy Ageing, Mrs Julian Jenson.

Over 70 people attended the free community and health professional sessions held at the AMI Suburbs Soccer Pavilion at Saxton Field.

Marlborough Dietitian Jenni Gane, chair of the health professionals’ session said “New Zealanders are living longer nowadays.  We want to add life to years, not just years to life”
