The Nelson City Council has just won an award for Top Commitment by an Organisation in the Golden Foot Awards. Run by Living Streets Aotearoa, the awards support the development of walking initiatives across the country.
The council has strategies to make walking and cycling easier and safer in developments like new subdivisions, so the award is timely.
“Up until now the council has concentrated on retrofitting our existing network to make it better for people but from now on, we’ll be building it right from the outset,” council transport and road safety coordinator Margaret Parfitt said.
Plans are afoot for more tracks in the future including a link from the Maitai to Trafalgar Park in time for the Rugby World Cup.
So what are you waiting for? Get your walking shoes on and try one of our award winning tracks.
