It might be aimed at tourism – but the locals will get the spin off when they get their wheels spinning!
Nelson and Tasman have scored a $2.6million government investment in new cycleways, which is going to make it a lot easier and more enjoyable to get on your bike. The cycle trails are a Tasman loop out to Tapawera, down the Motueka Valley and back to Nelson via the coast and a mountainbike trail “spine” joining the Brook and Maitai valleys. Nelson Cycle Trails Trust Trustee Chris Allison says that the Tasman component in particular will improve facilities for commuter cyclists.
“Increasing the numbers and profile of cycling will help make it a safer and more viable transport option,” said Chris.
