Breakfast is the word, whanau the aim.
The Schools’ Health Promoting Teams and several Marlborough agencies recently hosted a breakfast to bring whanau together in the school, neighbourhood, pre-school and Kohanga Reo.
As pupils and whanau members ate breakfast together, there was chatter, giggles and laughter filling the hall.
Truancy Officer Alan Cummins said the breakfast was a great opportunity for his role to be seen in a positive way. A pupil from Mayfield School told his principal, “It was really cool that I got to have breakfast with all my friends.”
Active Families Coordinator Wiki Chilvers says it was awesome to see whanau make an effort to attend the breakfast with their children, and principals from Mayfield and Blenheim schools are keen to repeat the event.
Once the breakfast was over, the children from Pam Stonely’s class at Blenheim School performed waiata (songs) to thank the agencies for their support for the breakfast programme.
