On Yer Bike!

Despite torrential rain leading up to the Go By Bike Day last month, a good number turned up for the event.

Go By Bike Day was run as part of the Nelson Cycle Festival and Nelson City Council’s Marg Parfitt says it was great to promote everyday cycling as part of the festival and she was pleased with the turnout.

“Nearly 200 cyclists called into the three sites for a free healthy breakfast,” she said.  “The cycle shops provided the labour for the breakfast stops, so the event is a great partnership between the retailers, Nelson City Council and the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board.”

Marg says future events are going to be promoted through the soon to be launched ‘Get Moving’ website:  “We want to be able to hook people into riding to work most of the time rather than as a special occasion,” she said.  “The Get Moving website will be a really valuable tool for encouraging people to make cycling part of their day to day lives.”
