Play donkey with Dad, tunnel ball with Nan, foursquare with the whole whanau.
Whatever game takes your fancy, it’s a great way to have fun together as a family.
This is a great way to Push Play if you’ve got a bunch of mates around – and best of all, you don’t need much!
What you’ll need:
• A bouncy ball
• Four mates or more
• Chalk
• A big piece of concrete
How to make it:
1. Draw a big square and then divide it up into four smaller squares.
2. You all have a square that has a ranking. The best square is number 1 – it’s called ‘King’; the second-highest square is number 2 and so on.
3. To start, the ‘King’ stands outside their square, bounces the ball into their square then hits the ball into someone else’s.Then they hit the ball into another square. You keep going till someone gets out.
4. You’re out when:
- the ball bounces twice before you hit it
- your shot goes out of bounds
- you get hit by the ball on the full
- you hit the ball on the full
5. If the ball bounces on the line – it’s a REPLAY!
6. Once you’re ‘out’, you move back to the fourth square (stink!) and everyone else moves up.
When playing on the driveway or street, get an adult to check that it’s safe first.
Don’t worry this isn’t a game for people with stinky hands, it’s table tennis, without the bats.
Find this stuff:
A ping pong ball. Something to make a net out of. A table.
This is the set up:
1. Set up your net; you can make one with two cans, a bit of string and some sticky tape.
2. Choose who gets to start, then serve by hitting the ball with your hand so it bounces once on your side of the net and over to land on your opponent’s side.
3. Your opponent hits the ball back to you. Then you return it to them, making sure it only bounces on the table once before you hit it.
4. When one of you misses (like the ball bounces more than once or it goes off the table) the other person gets a point. Now it’s your opponent’s turn to serve. The first person to get 20 points wins
Setup
• Three players each with a ball stand inside a circle or small box area. Other players can line up ready to enter the game.
• The three players must maintain their dribble while trying to knock the other balls out of the circle.
• Once your ball and your whole body are out of the circle you are knocked out of the game.
• Last one left in the circle is the winner or as soon as one person is knocked out the next person in line can rotate into the game.
Tips, Notes & Pointers
• You must still have control of your dribble while knocking another ball out.
• You are not allowed to pick your ball up and start from another place, to get out of trouble.
• Allowing a bit of controlled pushing with the body helps to teach players to stay in a balanced stance while dribbling.
