Liam loses 50kg, wins life As a man who used to weigh 135kg, Liam Butler has first-hand knowledge of how to beat obesity. Here's his inspirational story: It’s about 10.30pm on a Sunday night when a white car pulls alongside Liam Butler as he runs toward Nelson. A stranger sticks his head out the window and yells “Hey – you shouldn’t eat so many pies.” That’s why he used to run in the dark. click here for full story Get back on yer bike Riding a bicycle is like, well, riding a bicycle – you never forget how. Newsletter #18 Here’s Helen
Welcome back! It's the promise of a fresh start that has prompted us all to make a New Year's resolution at some stage. But as Liam Butler will tell you (see story), it takes more than a few cheap words at midnight to bring about lasting change. Through hard work and dedication to exercise, Liam shed nearly 50kg over two years and now runs marathons for fun. He has more energy, sleeps better and feels better all round. And he is encouraging others to follow his lead. His message is simple: You have to take ownership of your own weight and make the commitment to work at it every day. Or as he puts it: "it’s up to you – just get on and change it!" It's a great way to look at life. Also congratulations to Victory Village for being named a finalist in community category of the New Zealander of the Year Awards. We've worked with Victory on a number of programmes and it is their whole of community approach that sees them achieving such remarkable results. It really is something special and they deserve all the recognition they get. Helen SteenbergenNPA Programme Director. Contact us Nutrition and Physical Activity Team Jenni Gane/Maria Baxter
