"The Big Latch On"

Records were set to tumble at the Big Latch On - being held in venues around our region.

Last year New Zealand had 1306 taking part in the Big Latch On, with just over a hundred in Nelson Marlborough. This year is set to be even bigger, carrying on the annual record breaking trend set since the first Latch On in 2005.

Newsletter #23
August, 2010

Here’s Helen

Breastfeeding is blossoming throughout the district as we support World Breastfeeding Week (1-7 August 2010)

One feature of World Breastfeeding Week is The Big Latch on which has the goal of setting a new World Record for the most number of women simultaneously breastfeeding. Local mums were part of this fantastic world record attempt.

With all the benefits that breastfeeding offers our children (see story) we must do all we can to provide a supportive environment that supports mums to start and continue to breastfeed for as long as possible.

Why not encourage your office to become a breastfeeding friendly workplace? It’s small steps like this that we can all take to support mums across the Top of the South to continue this wonderful start to life.

Speaking of supportive environments and goal setting, the NPA team is also setting itself new goals.  Last year it was the Run Mahana we conquered and this year we’re in training for the Marlborough Marathon festival. We’ve pulled out the sneakers and dusted off the running and walking gear and are egging each other on in our usual highly competitive spirit.  We'd love you to join us too. Having an event to train for keeps the motivation and enthusiasm high, even when the weather’s miserable …not to mention the health benefits we experience from the regular activity.

So what’s your goal? We’d love to hear what you’ve set your sights on - perhaps you'd consider letting us share it with our readers?

Until next time, Helen

Helen Steenbergen
NPA Programme Director.
